Dog Domestication
Dog domestication began over 15,000 years ago when early humans and wolves formed a mutually beneficial relationship. Less aggressive wolves were attracted to human settlements for food scraps. Over time, humans tolerated and protected these wolves because they helped with hunting, guarding, and alerting against danger. Through natural selection and later intentional breeding, wolves gradually changed in behavior, appearance, and size. They became more social, loyal, and dependent on humans. This long process transformed wolves into domestic dogs, making them the first animals domesticated by humans and one of our closest companions.
